The Red October: Discovery of an Island

Eleven buildings of the «Red October» chocolate factory were built in the mid-19th century by the architect Alexander Kalmykov. In 2007, production was relocated outside the city centre. Various galleries, design bureaus, architectural workshops, photo studios and bars began opening on the former grounds of the factory, redefining it as the new creative space on the city map.

During the first thematic session, we will examine the concept of the ‘Anti-Cluster’ as a «space without borders», projects for the redevelopment of the Red October property, and the possibility of integrating creative space into the existing urban milieu.
