Devil’s Plantation: Installation

Part of: Telling the City

The Devil’s Plantation is May Miles Thomas’ homage to her native city of Glasgow. Supported by the Scottish Arts Council’s Creative Scotland Award, this interactive project is a unique exploration of place, time and memory. Inspired by «Glasgow’s Secret Geometry: The City’s Oldest Mystery», Miles Thomas sets out to reconstruct author, Harry Bell’s theory that the city aligns to a now-invisible network of ancient sites. However, the filmmaker’s chance discovery of a discarded file on ex-psychiatric patient, Mary Ross, brings insight into a wholly different quest for meaning. The result is a compelling psychogeographic journey that both explores the nature of storytelling and reveals the hidden design that eluded Harry Bell.
