During yesterday’s trip around Moscow, students were asked to explore the differences between various neighborhoods — from those located near railway stations to the most elite in the city center. What constitutеs a good neighborhood? What are the criteria for selecting a future residence? These were the questions asked during the walk.

Yesterday the whole day was devoted to student presentations regarding the Megacity theme. Each student  was allowed only one slide to share their thoughts on possible research topics. The results of this task will be up on the blog shortly.
At the same time, an informal discussion took place about what the research might present, the final product and the possibility of involving someone from the government in the project. Supervisors Laura Baird and Vadim Novikov tried to answer numerous questions regarding the theme, and also talked about different tools (surveys for example) one might use in exploring a specific subject. Afterwards, the students started to prepare for the fieldtrip around Moscow, which will be today, to gather impressions and thoughts about the city in the context of a megacity.

Yesterday the students met with the director of the theme Megacity Renier de Graaf and supervisors Laura Baird and Vadim Novikov. Renier then proceeded to talk about the phenomena of urban explosions, which is nowadays mostly seen in the most underdeveloped countries. He called them «a ticking time bomb», as they are unable to deal with the urbanization and growth.
