Alena Lanina

Project: Back to Basics: Defining Primary Resources in Russia (2011)

research theme: THINNING
Directors: Joseph Grima, Jiang Jun

Architect Alena Lanina is from Moscow. She worked on the Thinning theme with Joseph Grima and Jiang Jun. Alena’s project looked at possible alternatives to the oil and gas sector for Russia, and whether the dwindling Russian agricultural sector can be resurrected. She studied the historical background to Russian natural resource production and economics, as well as the development of remote Russian territories linked to the energy sector. Alena suggested that in the coming decades, grain could become the “new oil” for Russia. She currently works as a freelance architect.
