Anna Shevchenko

Project: Potential of Russian Heritage (2011)

research theme:
Directors: Rem Koolhaas

Architect Anna Shevchenko is from Moscow. She studied in the Preservation theme with Rem Koolhaas. Her research on Russian heritage was focused on a case study of the Jewish Autonomous Region in the Far East of Russia. The region was set up in the 1920’s and 1930’s for the resettlement of Jewish people to give them their own autonomous area, but now has only a small Jewish population. Anna’s work looked at the founding of the region and the creation of a particular heritage where there had previously been none, as well as at how that heritage is being sustained now. Anna currently works on Kultorograd, a project of experimental resettlement.
