Gleb Vitkov

Project: Post-Soviet Settlement: Diseases of City-Industrialization (2011)

research theme: THINNING
Directors: Joseph Grima, Jiang Jun

Architect Gleb Vitkov is from Moscow. He studied in the Thinning research theme with Joseph Grima and Jiang Jun. His work looked at the Soviet idea of the monocity, where everything in a city is set up around one major enterprise or factory, and his research was based on a fieldtrip to the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region in Northern Russia. He came to the conclusion that the way Russia is settled needs to be changed: people should live where the conditions are more suitable for doing so. Gleb currently teaches at the Higher School of Urban Studies at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow.
