Project: Infrastructure/ Borderline: Structures That Shape the Landscape (2011)
research theme: | THINNING |
Directors: | Joseph Grima, Jiang Jun |
Architect Ivan Kuryachiy is from Tomsk. He studied in the Thinning research theme with Joseph Grima and Jiang Jun. His project looked at the distribution of population and economic opportunities across Russia’s vast territory. Ivan took a long view on the matter, comparing the current situation of Russia as an energy exporter with the older feudal state. He outlined a triangle across European Russia based on the position of Moscow and the Russian energy pipeline network, and suggested that territories outside this triangle are destined to undergo thinning. Ivan currently works at IRP Group.
