Kuba Snopek

Project: Belyayevo Forever (2011)

research theme:
Directors: Rem Koolhaas

Urbanist Kuba Snopek is from Wroclaw. He was part of the Preservation research theme, with Rem Koolhaas as the director. Kuba’s project involved writing an application to UNESCO to include the Moscow suburb of Belyayevo in the World Heritage Sites list. Belyayevo, an area of repetitive Soviet-era apartment blocks, does not fit the usual UNESCO criteria, but Snopek argued that the guidelines should involve both tangible and intangible value. His work also looked at the nature of Soviet apartment blocks and particularly construction during the era of Nikita Khrushchev. Kuba currently works at Strelka.
