Maria Gulieva

Project: Public Space through Moscow Landscape Planning Strategies (2011)

research theme: Public Space
Directors: Michael Schindhelm, Yuri Grigoryan

Architect Maria Gulieva is from Moscow. She studied in the Public Space research theme with Michael Schindhelm and Yuri Grigoryan, and worked on various strategies for planning green areas and parks in Moscow. She looked at the history of Moscow masterplans from the 1920’s onwards and found that the two main problems are that much of the embankment area along the Moscow River is inaccessible to pedestrians, and also that much of the existing green space is not interconnected. After looking at various landscape strategies, Maria’s project makes a proposal for a new recreational public space in the centre of Moscow. Maria is currently studying Urban Design at the University of Westminster.
