Project: The Palaces of Pioneers (Preservation as Design) (2011)

research theme:
Directors: Rem Koolhaas

Architect Olga Khokhlova is from Sochi. She studied in the Preservation theme with Rem Koolhaas. Her research looked at Pioneers’ Palaces – the buildings that were designed for young people to pursue extra-curricular activities during the Soviet period. She looked in particular at the Moscow Pioneers’ Palace, built in 1962 and still in use, as well as at debates among officials, teachers and the general public about how to preserve the building and the institution in Moscow and other cities. Olga currently works at the Wowhaus architectural office.
