Tamara Muradova

Project: (Re) Inhabiting Russian Avant-garde (The Ideology of Preservation) (2011)

research theme: Preservation
Directors: Rem Koolhaas

Architect Tamara Muradova is from Moscow. She studied in the Preservation theme with Rem Koolhaas. Her research focused on the Russian avant-garde, an important part of Russian architectural heritage that is often neglected. She looked particularly at the workers’ settlements of the period, and found that there is a severe lack of knowledge and data about the buildings, which still house 95,000 people in Moscow today. The government has recently lowered the level of architectural preservation status on some of the buildings, opening the way for them to be demolished or altered. Tamara currently works as a freelance architect and is also involved with a number of Strelka projects.
