Yefim Freidine

Project: Soviet Ideology of Preservation: How It Works Today (2011)

research theme:
Directors: Rem Koolhaas

Architect Yefim Freidine from Omsk. He studied in the Preservation research theme with Rem Koolhaas. His research focused on Soviet ideas of preservation and their relevance today. Yefim looked at examples, including Gorky Park in Moscow, and argued that preservation needs to retain an element of discussion, giving people a voice to state their preferences and thoughts on how areas should be preserved. He contrasted the Soviet idea of preservation with how people think about the topic today. Yefim currently works at RYM architects and is involved in several Strelka’s projects.
