Moscow Urban Forum “Megacities: Success Beyond the Centre”. Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design, forum programme developer, presents the speakers of this year.
Yasushi Aoyama, Professor at Meiji University, Tokyo, a doctor of political science and former Vice Governor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. His areas of focus include international politics, city crisis management and disaster prevention and recovery, as well as the development of local governance.

His major achievements include managing the consequences of the volcano eruption on Miyake Island in 2000. Aoyama is currently heavily involved in teaching and charitable activity. His most famous work relates to his support of the inhabitants of Miyake Island, the majority of whom he was able to assist in deciding to return home after the catastrophe to continue their lives there. The list of organisations this expert is currently working with, includes over 30 charitable foundations, state organisations and universities. Aoyama has also written a series of books and articles on city governance,
including the well-known research, The City of Tokyo (2003).

During the Forum, Yasushi Aoyama will share his theoretical and practical skills in relation to local governance of megacities and crisis management.
