Merve Yucel was part of the Design theme research, curated by Stefano Boeri. Her research was focused on the subject of microrayons in the context of the transformation of Moscow over the last 20 years.

The year I spent at Strelka was a very important time in my life. I was introduced to a lot of bright minds and made a lot of connections for my future career.

My reserach project was on the intriguing subject of Microrayons, which allowed the outcome to be exhibited and promoted in different formats. I was quite satisfied with the outcome of my research and was very glad to find an opportunity to develop it further.

Together with Francisca Insulza and Evgenia NedosekinaI was invited to be part of the Sao Paulo Calling exhibition curated by Stefano Boeri, our former tutor at Strelka. We used my Strelka research as a base to further discuss the phenomenon of social housing in the world. Besides the Sao Paulo project, the project was also used in the issue of Project Russia that underlined the 20th anniversary of the USSSR collapse.

After Strelka, I have been pursuing my interests in Istanbul, my hometown. The Istanbul Design Biennale is the perfect opportunity to use the experience and knowledge that I gained in Moscow. I am working on it together with Joseph Grima, as a member of the team that organizes the Biennale. Since it is the first time that this huge event is taking place, we are all very excited and looking forward to it.”
