Strelka recently took part in the Designers & Books Fair 2012 in New York. The Fair targeted the professional publishing community and authors writing on topics related to design and architecture. At the fair, Strelka Press presented range of e-books and Justin McGuirk, the director of Strelka’s English language publishing programme, participated in two public forums about the contemporary architecture criticism and the future of the publishing industry.

Besides Strelka Press there were 35 publishing houses represented at the Fair, including: Princeton Architectural Press, MIT Press, Phaidon, Van Alen Books, Actar, Harper Collins and others. Strelka Press was practically the only ones at the Fair who were working with e-books. Even amongst publishers focused on books about design and architecture for the US market, there was virtually no application of electronic formats.

Strelka prepared an interactive stand for the Fair and presented its range of English language e-books, guests were able to look at Strelka Press books on the iPads. “Even among the publishing houses specialising in books on design and architecture, work with electronic text is almost reduced to zero”,— says Anna Krasinskaya, the director of the Strelka’s publishing programme. One of the few exceptions was Monacelli Press that also works actively with e-books and is doing a lot of interesting things on illustrations and graphics for its publications. “We exchanged details and would like to learn from them” — adds Anna.

Due to the storm the second day of the Fair ended early so that its participants and visitors could stock up with provisions before the end of the working day.

Strelka Press Information is available at Designers & Books, among the best publishers from around the world, specialising in books on design and architecture.
