Artist Artemis Papageorgiou together with participants of the workshop will create an interactive map of Moscow on the electronic textile

During the three-day HAPTIC CITY master class in Moscow, participants will construct an interactive responsive map of the capital, using the latest achievements of such scientific fields as fibertronics (electronic textiles). The participants will master the techniques of arranging electronic components in materials and their programming.

The master class HAPTIC CITY is a collaborative project of the Greek multimedia artists Artemis Papageorgiou and Afroditi Psarra. The master class in Moscow will be given by Artemis, who regularly works with new technologies, and whose sphere of interest lies at the convergence between hybrid landscapes and interactive design. Her works are inspired by the natural sciences, technologies and architectural theory. Artemis Papageorgiou graduated from the computing department of the prestigious Goldsmiths University in London, where she collaborated with the Cinimod studio and the studio of Jason Bruges, working on master-classes in LED-technology and DIY electronics for the art group MzTek. After her return to Athens in 2011, she founded the Athens Plaython festival, which consists of large-scale events dedicated to street games, design and technologies. The festival was awarded second prize at the TEDx Athens Challenge competition.

The workshop is a part of Polytech at Strelka collaborative educational programme created by the Polytechnic Museum and the Strelka Institute. The program will include a series of events dedicated to popular science and new developments in contemporary art at the intersection where science, architecture and visual art collide. From May through September 2014, the Strelka Institute will host public lectures and seminars on science-art, as well as multiple activities for curators, artists and museum professionals.
