A city which acts as a brand. A city which constructs its own image.

A city which breaks through its accumulated stereotypes to become a new cultural capitol of Europe. Sergey Nikitin and Anastasia Krylova discuss the daring and ambitious cultural policy of the industrial city of Terni, which will host its first festival of architecture this fall. The specific case of Terni could be interesting and even useful for Russia, which is comprised primarily of industrial cities, that on the one hand are quite similar to one another, having struggled through the period of accelerated urbanization under the Soviets, while on the other, vary wildly in terms of mentality and way of life. Its precisely this paradox within contemporary Russian urbanism which makes the search for a city’s identity a very relevant question for us.
